Special Issue on Blockchain Applications in IoT Environments
Aims and Scope:
There now is considerable interest in the Internet of Things (IoT) as an evolution of data communications that allows direct, persistent, and automated device-to-device communication (also known as Machine-to-Machine [M2M] communication or Cyber-Physical Systems [CPSs] communication). At the same time Blockchains (BCs) are fast developing as powerful new tools to provide integrity and trust not only for the ever-expending e-economy but also for traditional financial and business applications. The principal applications of BCs to date have been for financial transactions execution, smart contracts, and crypto-currencies; however, new potential applications are now emerging. The confluence of the IoT and Blockchain Mechanisms (BCMs) is expected to revolutionize almost every aspect of life, from transportation and smart cities, to e-health and cyber-security.
